Financing home appliances at Raneen: how it works

Raneen is one of Egypt's best-known home appliance retailers, and appliances are the category Egyptians finance most. What to check before you buy, and how to compare an in-store plan against an app.
Raneen is one of Egypt's most widely spread home appliance and electronics chains, with branches across many governorates.
Home appliances and electronics are the largest consumer finance category in Egypt at 25.5% per the Financial Regulatory Authority — which makes this exactly where most instalment purchases happen.
This article explains how to buy an appliance on instalments from a large showroom, what to verify, and how to compare.
Note: this is a general buyer's guide and is not issued by Raneen. Offers and terms change — confirm with the branch directly.
Categories financed at showrooms
Large appliance showrooms typically cover:
- Fridges and freezers — among the most financed items, because prices are high and the need is immediate when one fails.
- Washing machines — the same logic.
- Cookers and ovens
- Air conditioners — sharply seasonal, with prices jumping in summer.
- Screens and televisions
- Small appliances — microwaves, vacuums, water heaters, blenders.
- Phones and laptops at some branches.
The routes available in a showroom
1. The showroom's own plan — the store or a financing partner arranges payments during the same visit.
2. A bank programme — if you hold a credit card.
3. An instalment app — you spend your limit at participating branches. The showroom is paid in full; you repay the app.
The practical difference: the first route is decided while you stand in front of a salesperson. The third lets you know your limit at home and compare before you travel.
Context for the category: the Financial Regulatory Authority reports electronics and appliances at 25.5% of consumer finance — the largest single category in Egypt. That is why showrooms compete hard on instalment terms, and why the same fridge can carry two very different totals a street apart.
What to verify before buying
1. The final cash price in writing — for exactly the same model, not a near one.
2. The total due under the plan — payment × term.
3. An agent's warranty — not a "shop warranty." Get it in writing.
4. Delivery and installation — air conditioners and large appliances carry costs. Inside the amount or not?
5. The invoice in your name — it proves ownership and activates the warranty.
6. The late fee in pounds — there is no binding legal cap.
7. The replacement policy if a fault appears in the first days.
Showroom plan or app?

| Showroom plan | Instalment app | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Same visit | Minutes, before you travel |
| Term | Can run longer | Usually 2–6 months |
| Comparison | Hard — one offer | Easy — you compare at home |
| Reach | The chain's branches | Many retailers |
| Documents | Usually ID | ID and a selfie |
The rule that settles it: take the total from both and pick the lower — not the smaller payment.
A worked example
A washing machine at EGP 14,000 cash:
| Plan | Payment | Total | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 months | 3,650 | 14,600 | 600 |
| 12 months | 1,300 | 15,600 | 1,600 |
| 18 months | 920 | 16,560 | 2,560 |
The last plan's payment is roughly a quarter of the first, and its total is EGP 1,960 higher.
Timing your purchase
Air conditioners cost most at the height of summer. Buying before the season saves on the base price — which is what instalments are calculated on.
Large appliances carry offers in particular seasons. Photograph the price a month before the season so you can tell a real discount from a raised price.
⚠️ And don't buy under "last unit" pressure — it's a technique for stopping you comparing.
Your rights
Licensed providers must disclose, before you contract, the financing amount, fees, annual rate, administrative costs and total due.
Since September 2025 they cannot charge on the unused portion of your limit.
Reporting to I-Score is mandatory once your limit is approved.
How to choose the appliance itself
Before you think about payment, choosing the right appliance saves more than any discount.
Fridge: capacity relative to household size, and the energy-efficiency rating. The difference in electricity use between ratings compounds over years and offsets the price gap.
Washing machine: capacity in kilos, spin speed, and whether it has a heater. Front loaders generally use less water and power than top loaders.
Air conditioner: horsepower relative to room size. An undersized unit runs constantly and consumes more — costlier than buying the right size in the first place.
Screen: resolution and viewing distance. An oversized screen in a small room isn't an upgrade.
A general rule: on appliances that run daily, energy efficiency is part of the price. A machine EGP 2,000 cheaper that consumes more can cost you that difference within two years.
Mistakes that happen in showrooms
1. Accepting the salesperson's recommendation without comparing online. Five minutes of searching makes a difference.
2. Buying the whole set. A bundle of fridge, washing machine and cooker looks like a saving, but it raises the financed amount and the payment.
3. Approving the total by ear. Ask to see it in writing before signing.
4. Forgetting installation costs. Especially air conditioning, where installation can be a substantial figure.
5. Not noting the first payment date. Find it out, write it down, and set a reminder two days before.
When an appliance fails suddenly
This is the scenario that drives most appliance financing: the fridge stops, or the washing machine breaks, and the replacement is needed today rather than next month.
In that situation, the pressure makes the decision worse. Three steps protect against it:
1. Ask about repair first. Sometimes the fault is minor and costs a fraction of a new machine. If the appliance is under seven years old, repair is usually worth looking at.
2. If you decide to buy, don't buy at the first shop. Even in a hurry, two phone calls give you a picture of the price.
3. Choose the size you need, not the largest. Haste makes people take what's in stock rather than what fits.
Most importantly: urgency isn't a reason to take the longest term. Choose one you can close quickly, because the emergency passes and the payment stays.
After the purchase
1. Make sure you have the invoice, in your name, and photograph it.
2. Register the warranty if the agent requires registration.
3. Write down the first and last payment dates.
4. Keep the payment schedule and the agreed total.
Those four steps prevent a possible dispute months later — and at that point, the paperwork is what speaks.
Where Lucid fits
Lucid works with more than 500 shops including appliance retailers, with the list published on the Lucid Business page. The limit reaches around EGP 50,000, plans run two to five months, and the decision takes under 10 minutes.
Plainly: if you're buying a large appliance and need longer than five months, a showroom plan or a consumer finance company will suit you better. Coverage is Cairo, Giza and Alexandria, and there is a late fee.
Always confirm with the branch that instalments are available before you travel.

Frequently asked questions
Does Raneen accept instalments?
Large appliance showrooms in Egypt generally offer instalment plans, and some also accept instalment apps. Offers change — confirm with the branch directly.
How do I finance an appliance at a showroom?
Choose the product, get its final cash price, ask about the available plans and the total for each, and compare before approving.
What documents are required?
It depends on the route. Instalment apps usually ask for a national ID and a selfie; the bank route asks for a card and more documentation.
Does financing raise the price?
There's usually a difference. Multiply payment by term and compare with the cash price for the same model.
Are delivery and installation included in the amount?
Not always. Ask explicitly, especially with air conditioners and large appliances.
Does financing affect the warranty?
No. The warranty follows the device and the invoice. Confirm it's an agent's warranty, not a shop's.
Will they ask for a down payment?
It varies by offer. A down payment lowers both the payment and the total.
Can I finance more than one appliance?
Depending on your limit, but the payments stack. Add them up before deciding.
When is the best time to buy an air conditioner?
Before the season. Summer lifts the base price, and instalments are calculated on it.
Do all branches accept instalments?
Not necessarily. Confirm with the branch you plan to visit.
Is it possible without a credit card?
Yes, with instalment apps. See instalments without a credit card.
Is this reported to I-Score?
Yes. Reporting is mandatory once your limit is approved.
What's the difference between a showroom plan and an app?
The showroom gives one offer while you stand there. An app lets you know your limit and compare before travelling.
How do I compare two offers?
By total, not by payment. Payment × term for each, and the lower total is cheaper.
What if I'm going to miss a payment?
Contact the provider before the due date. Late payment is recorded and carries a fee with no binding legal cap.
Where else can I use instalments?
Across many categories. See our guide to where to pay in instalments in Egypt and electronics and appliance instalments.
